the arts gallery, the university of arts london
september 3 * october 3, 2008
curated by GQ editor dylan jones, musician faris rotter and graphic designer peter saville, ‘spin: the art of record design’ looks at record design from the past four decades. the show examines the relationship between the art and design or record packaging with the music itself. an eclectic array of work is included in the show, representing many different musical styles and time periods. the one commonality between all the works is that they were all designed or feature artwork by alumni of university of the arts london. while the covers themselves will be on show, inspiration and original artwork will also be displayed to shed light on the process of creating a record cover. album covers for cream, robert plant, uriah heep, madness, adam & the ants, the clash, james, chemical brothers, hard-fi, lemon jelly, the gossip, beth orton and adele will among those on show
